Braking System for the Brand New Lexus IS-F is a Milestone in Brembo Development
CURNO, Italy
April 16, 2007 – Toyota
recently introduced the 2008 Lexus IS-F, its vision of a performance car. The IS-F features a 5-liter V8 engine which
delivers more than 400 hp and is one of the
fastest cars ever tested on the gruelling “Old
Nürburgring” track.
Brembo
engineers developed a dedicated braking system for this performance car: 14.2-in. x 1.2-in. (360mm x 30mm) drilled front
discs gripped by a six-piston fixed caliper and 13.6-in.
x 1.1-in. (345mm x 28 mm) drilled rear discs gripped by a two-piston fixed
caliper. With the production of the Lexus IS-F
starting in the second half of 2007, it represents the
first car with a Brembo-sourced braking system for the leading Japanese
manufacturer.
With this new supplier agreement,
Brembo will strengthen its position in the Japanese performance
car market. Brembo is already present in this market as a manufacturer of components for other Japanese manufacturers. “We are delighted with the challenge of
combining Brembo’s legendary performance braking with the unique driving style of the Lexus and
we’re confident that you will enjoy the results on the road,” said Brembo Chairman Alberto
Bombassei. “And while this agreement will have
no material impact on 2007 sales, we hope that it will be the beginning of a
long-lasting cooperation with
Toyota.”
