Cobb Tuning Announces the Release of AccessPORT ECU Programmer for the 2006 STi

Cobb AccessPORT released for 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Today, Cobb Tuning announced the release of its proprietary engine control unit reflash hardware for the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI.  The AccessPORT allows a user the ability to upload preprogrammed maps to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) via the diagnosis port located below the STI's steering wheel.

The AccessECU Technology
The AccessPORT relies on the powerful AccessECU technology to perform the task of reprogramming the factory ECU for high performance applications. By fully reverse engineering the factory ECU in-house, Cobb not only modified all the fuel, ignition timing, and boost maps but also re-engineer critical parts of the software for improved performance and consistency.

Performance Maps
The Cobb AccessPORT does not require soldering, wiring, or any downtime of your STi.  Cobb continuously develops map revisions for a variety of performance modifications and makes them available on their website so that users can stay up-to-date with the latest map revisions or find maps best suited for their particular modifications.

Features
In addition to convenience and functionality, the AccessPORT features:

  • Ability to use AccessECU maps without removing ECU;
  • 10 Instantly Switchable Maps;
  • Read and Clear Check Engine Lights;
  • Download new maps via the Internet;
  • Revert back to Stock programming

Map Switching
The flash memory of the factory ECU can only be reprogrammed 100 times.  The engineers at Cobb Tuning overcame this limitation by developing a LIMITLESS Map Switching system.  Using a Cobb AccessPORT, an STI enthusiast can quickly switch between maps as often as you like without reducing the life of the ECU's flash memory.

Usefulness
The AccessPORT stores 10 different maps, giving an STI enthusiast flexibility when taking advantage of this Instant Map Switching feature.  In addition to the Staged Performance Maps offered by Cobb, Cobb offers some useful maps, including:

  • A Valet Mode Map;
  • A Race Mode Map;
  • An Economy Mode Map; and
  • An Anti-Theft Mode Map

Compared to Piggy Back ECU Systems
Unlike "piggyback" systems that intercept the signals coming and going from the ECU, the AccessPORT is not limited by the parameters of the stock factory programming.  Instead, the Cobb AccessPORT directly reprograms the factory engine management system, allowing for unparalleled control and precision of tuning.
