The New 2006 Porsche 911 Turbo

The New 2006 Porsche 911 Turbo
There are many technological achievements contained in the new 2006 911. For a full overview of the new 911 model visit the multimedia rich porscheusa.com website here. The following are some of the high-tech features that are available in 2006.

A first in the sports car segment transmits this vast power to the road: all-wheel-drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM). PTM’s multiple-disc clutch regulates distribution of the drive power to the front axle. Porsche Traction Management has been tuned first and foremost for outstanding driving dynamics, in conjunction with improvement in safety on we roads and snow.

Another important aspect is the car’s lightweight design. Every single gram has been considered from all angles. This effort has paid off: The power-to-weight ratio of 7.3 lb. per. Hp is equally as impressive as the further reduction in fuel consumption.

The variable turbine geometry (VTG) featured for the first time in this car provides for markedly improved response of the turbochargers. This results in high torque even at low engine speeds, combined with a high maximum power output. The so-called “turbo hole” has thus been banished for good.

However, the higher exhaust gas temperatures created by petrol engines using this new VTG technology called for the creation of new heat-resistant materials. Porsche and Borg Warner Turbo Systems managed to overcome the heat issue and developed a VTG turbo system that will be incorporated into the new 911 Turbo.

The VTG turbo will allow Porsche's flat-six to mimic a twin-turbo setup with a much broader torque curve and more flexible power band than a standard single turbo could provide on its own.
