Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R Gives the Tire Rack a Lesson on Lateral Acceleration
Forget a one-time ticket to the amusement park. If you want thrills head to your local tire dealer and pick up a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires and head to the track. In a recent Tire Rack test against three competing extreme performance summer tires, the Potenza RE-01R was the overall top pick, and for the first time in Tire Rack test history, allowed a Tire Rack Test driver to exceed 1g!

According to the Tire Rack, “the Potenza RE-01R extreme performance summer tire not only delivered the best ride of the four tires tested, but it delivered surprising civilized ride characteristics that could have easily been mistaken for those of a tire delivering far less performance.”

Test drivers ran each set of tires in wet and dry conditions on a 1/3-mile per lap test track with 90 degree corners, lane changes and simulated highway ramps. The team tested for “traction, responsiveness, handling and drivability normally only encountered during abrupt emergency avoidance maneuvers or competition events."

It should be no surprise that drifting competitors and enthusiasts share a love for the RE-01R with its wide center rib, cooling and racing slits, wide straight groove and semi-shoulder block. Available in 13 sizes up to 19- inches, the Potenza RE-01R features UNI-T technology and boasts V and W speed ratings.

“The Potenza RE-01R is the tire to beat out on the track,” said Rich Rutherford of Tool Racing, sponsored by Tire Rack. “This tire really responds in the corners giving me an edge over the competition.”

“When I’m out on the course I can count on the Potenza RE-01R to follow my lead,” said Bridgestone-sponsored Rhys Millen of Red Bull/Pontiac/RMR, 2005 Formula Drift Champion. “The responsiveness and handling is unbelievable!”

The Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R offers enthusiasts the best of both worlds- the same outstanding performance required on the track with a quiet and comfortable ride that is rare in a high performance tire. Even in wet conditions, complete control is not sacrificed with the RE-01R.

“The Tire Rack is such a respected source of information in the tire world, and we are very excited to hear the results of their recent test, ranking the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R at the top of the list,” said Phil Pacsi, vice president, consumer marketing, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC.

What a steal at only 168/tire at 225/45/17! (sarcasm).

When are tire companies going to realize the benefit of getting an amazing tire to market at a reasonable price At almost half the price with ridiculous dry grip, Falken's "Azenis Sport" will go down in history as the most excellent bang-for-buck tire from 2003-2005. Falken generated awesome sales of that tire due to Internet word of mouth.

I'll buy an 8/10 tire at 100/each over a 9/10 tire at 168/each any day of the year, for the rest of my life.

The fact is that the Azeni Sport is *NOT* good under hot track conditions. This tire has proven to break down under extreme use. Autocross - yes. Track - no.

The RE-01R is now down to about $130/tire, and at only $120 a set more than a comparable tire like the Kumho MX they are a real steal.
